The incumbent is responsible to collaboratively develop plans and interventions to ensure compliance with prescribed regulations, operational standards and campaigns to ensure optimal and sustainable application of the safety management system.<br><br><strong>Minimum Requirements:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Grade 12 qualification or equivalent</li><li>Be in possession of a Degree/National Diploma in Health and Safety Management</li><li>Be in possession of a Trade Certificate or a Blasting Certificate</li><li>Completed COMSOC 1 and 2 Certification</li><li>Must have at least 3 years’ appropriate trackless mining experience</li><li>At least 15 years’ experience as a safety specialist with a flair for leading contractor safe work practice</li><li>Registered with SACPCMP for construction safety</li><li>Audit qualifications as lead auditor for NOSA,OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001</li><li>Traffic safety knowledge</li><li>Tailing Storage Facility knowledge and environmental management </li><li>In-depth knowledge of knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996)</li><li>Be in possession of valid driver’s license, Code 08 (EB)</li><li>Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment<br><br></li></ul><strong>Key Competencies:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Proven personal safety record</li><li>Sound Interpersonal, collaboration and written & spoken English communication</li><li>Established team player with good influencing skills </li><li>Working knowledge and application of Accident investigation processes (ICAM/R-CAT)</li><li>Working knowledge and application Safety management systems </li><li>Familiar with safety reporting standards and systems and ability to conduct intermediate safety audit and assurance </li><li>Have a good understanding of the ISO 45001:2018 Safety Management Standard</li><li>Computer literate and competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite</li><li>Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills<br><br></li></ul><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Convene, lead and participate in various Safety meetings, forums and engagements</li><li>Attend Safety Department briefing and task activity sessions to represent area of accountability and act as a conduit for escalation and/or onward cascading of key Safety management initiatives</li><li>Participate in the development, planning and roll-out of various on-site safety initiatives, campaigns, etc. and monitor implementation in area of accountability taking remedial actions as required to maintain momentum</li><li>Draft, collate and present relevant safety topics for cascading through area of accountability</li><li>Conduct scheduled and ad hoc safety inspections and compile safety, risk assessment and audit reports for presentation and/or submission to operational leadership and the Safety Department highlighting any areas of best practice application and/or concern</li><li>Design, present and/or source Safety awareness, training and coaching material/courses for operational training and awareness and, building operational team self-sufficiency to manage the Safety environment</li><li>Schedule, conduct and participate in regular Safety Management System application, compliance and quality assessments and assume accountability for listing and monitoring corresponding actions and close outs in areas of accountability</li><li>Conduct, facilitate and/or participate in regular operational risk assessment exercises including the facilitation of bow-tie analysis, etc. and maintain appropriate risk management schedules against which to measure operational controls, mitigation measures, etc</li><li>Conduct and participate in assigned accident or incident investigation (ICAM and RCAT) and assume accountability for listing and monitoring corresponding actions and close outs in areas of accountability</li><li>Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on safety related matters<br><br></li></ul><strong>Closing Date: 09 January 2026 <br><br></strong><em>Please note that the Gold Fields code of conduct strictly prohibits the exchange of any payment as part of its recruitment process.<br><br></em><strong><em> Should you require any assistance or have any challenges in applying for a position, please contact the Recruitment hub on 011 411 1387<br><br></em></strong><strong> <br><br></strong>Creating enduring value <strong>beyond mining<br><br></strong><strong><em>Gold Fields is committed to advancing Employment Equity (EE) through our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) values.
